The big difference here is you dont control any permanents to produce mana or sacrifice at the start of a game, whereas the rules let you start with a full grip of seven cards ready to be spent immediately plus another free one each turn
The first player to start missing land drops in this match-up will usually find themselves at a severe disadvantage, so having more lands/ways to find land makes sense
