The ability for it to block makes it not just an aggro card or an engine card
Commander 2011 gave us this, a sign of what was to come as WotC started to design for the format
It really is an awesome card to use because of its negation powers, and thats why opponents would want to take it out of the game as soon as possible
He does get an extra life out of the deal this way (since he gets an extra Ooze activation), but you need to have a lot of confidence that your opponent is going to get every little thing right to make such a risky play when the reward is a mere one life
