He has okay Strength and Willpower stats, and can soak a few hits, but by the time he is played, there are usually cards out that can defeat him easily
In Commander games, the return-to-hand death trigger means you can dodge the commander tax
Chase cards often fetch 80-100% of their market value
A 1/4 with ward 1 defends itself well, and just by attacking and conniving, you can boost Raffine and other creatures you control, and fill your graveyard for shenanigans and value
Susan Foreman makes an excellent Doctors companion, coming down on Turn 2, and if your mana works out, you can cast The Fifth Doctor on Turn 3
If you are a tournament player, knowing your Power 9 is also important because these cards are restricted in Vintage tournaments and banned in Legacy and Commander (the single exception being Timetwister in Commander format)
