It was awesome in two ways because your little Basic Pokmon werent as likely to get utterly annihilated by other Pokmon during the start of the game (well except for the whole Machamp thing, but Im talking more specifically about weakness here) and as an added bonus you could do some serious damage to your opponents bigger Pokmon with your smaller Pokmon if you fell behind (Ill hit your Machamp for 50 for one Energy with my Uxie)
