It somehow never seems to end well for Magic's couples though - you either get your relationship retconned (Nissa and Chandra) or have to go through the pain of heartbreak and stabbings (Jace and Vraska).

Obviously, Hakbal was created to be the #1 Merfolk commander, leading the Merfolk precon from Lost Caverns of Ixalan , and he does this job exceptionally well
It will generate some amount of value in more than 66 percent of matchups (this is including all the "fringe" uses like countering a Khalni Garden activation) and it will be very good-to-game-winning 36 percent of the time
