Psychic Paper lets you do all the same name-switching shenanigans, but offers tangible benefits on top of that, including making the equipped creature unblockable, giving it Ward 1, and changing its creature type
The good news is that all of the decks in the series are worth their price tag (assuming they again cost somewhere around $30, which again isn't guaranteed since there is no longer an MSRP), so it isn't so much that you shouldn't buy Fires Friends (even though it is the worst-rated Challenger Deck in the history of the series)
