If you want to go big, cards like Doubling Season, Vorel of the Hull Clade, Winding Constrictor, and Deepglow Skate can double or even explode the number of counters, making your payoff cards hit game-ending levels in just a turn or two
But if you're going to pay well above the value of your average precon for a deck, do you really want something that's going to flounder around every game
You can get some thematic ones, like Gyre Sage in +1/+1 counter decks, but the combination of any color and hexproof makes this a reliable dork for any deck
