The tradeoff of the opponent gaining life is a small price to pay to get something off the field for good unless you targeted a Commander
The unspoken assumption being that those same players will be able to purchase more within the app, probably via microtransaction using real money or some fun premium currency that totally isnt obfuscating the blatant monetisation scheme
