The +1 gives him an awful lot of staying power and usually buys you enough time to either start safely milking him for cards or ramping towards the ultimate so you can finish the game
The card's design is pushing Izzet colors if you want a Room-centric deck (at least for now), which is instantly a departure from the usual instant/sorcery focus we're accustomed to seeing
A lot of the effects are symmetrical (Braids, Gate to the Aether, Horn of Greed) but I 1) hope that having better card selection through Arjun will let me take better advantage of them and 2) I will bust this deck out when it's time for a big fun swingy (and possibly quick) game of EDH.
