What makes Taii Wakeen an interesting buildaround is how i t provides a home for otherwise underwhelming red and white damage spells in Commander like Blazing Volley or Gideon's Reproach and encourages a unique playstyle with a combination of pingers like Prodigal Pyromancer and spell payoffs like Thermo-Alchemist

I can only guess that its down to the card being completely symmetrical, since most decks seem to want to use the graveyard in some way

This is the exact same ability as Conjurers Closet, but its one mana cheaper and comes on a massive Creature that can serve as your commander

And arent all decks slowly turning into that in EDH

Arcane Denial never made much of an impact on constructed formats of the time as it was around at the same time as many of the other strongest counterspells and being so old it has never been able to feature in the more current extended formats
