The original purpose of an ensi is to cover the door of the Turkmen dwelling known as a yurt. The orientation is indicated by the small arch which would point upwards. The two rectangular compartments contain ancient Shamanic motifs probably predating Islam. This example is in fairly good condition for its age with low to medium pile. There is an old split, discreetly repaired. The foundation is strong throughout.
