Grilled herbs, leather, smoke, licorice, tobacco and cedar add touches of aromatic nuance, but the 2016, which spent 12 months in French oak, is mostly a wine of fruit intensity and structure. This is a decidedly hearty, burly style. I would like to think a little more subtlety is possible.
