Its not the cheapest merfolk lord, but quite effective thanks to its tap ability

Wickerbough Elder There was a time before cards like Thrashing Brontodon (and before Best-of-One on MTG Arena) when it was very hard to find creatures with Naturalize effects

I think it seems to have too many directions and not enough synergy between the cards

Before it dies, not only did it deal some damage and absorb a ton in combat, it drops more treasure than it's mana value and makes a big and splashy a move with it's super high toughness

It is good as just a 2/3 deathtouch for two and then it offers a lot of additional utility to go with that
