Creature-based decks can get a lot from Thorn of Amethyst, but any deck capable of cheating these out and counteracting them with mana acceleration or a similar perk can wreck their opponents plans

There was plenty of ground to cover, with sixteen games all taking place in their own unique fantasy universes, and Wizards hit every single one of them
This card can then defend and block damage immediately after dealing it
It does have the potential to make it into decks, though, and thatll keep it at a solid price
If you drop at least a Sol Ring on your first turn, and some way to produce red mana, you can pretty easily get five, six, or even seven mana on your second turn of this spell alone, letting you cast most mid-range commanders early on
